Projects – RICTI
Social robotics has the potential to support health and welfare services and address labour gaps that are growing in development economies. Their human interaction affordances enable rapid and simple deployment into occupational, domestic and entertainment environments while reading and responding to human emotions and attitudes. Much of the technology and psychology foundation needed for widespread use of social robotics is already established, although widespread commercial deployments and control points are currently in their earliest stages.
Any geographical region with excellent manufacturing and ICT industry track record, continuing global success and workforce skills, and a well-connected sizable university ecosystem, would be well placed to engage in the technologies and applications of social robotics. The potential payoff for such a region could be enormous – with impressive regional and national economic growth. We wish to realize this potential in the Tampere region.
